Our History

In the summer of 2009, Texas Filmmakers celebrated its five year anniversary. Over those five years we have produced dozens of events, given away thousands of dollars, faciilitated hundreds of media productions, and much more. In brief, here is a list of milestones and accomplishments since our founding:

  • Feb '04 - Founded as a student organization at UNT
  • Mar '04 - Committed to a full season of fundraising at the Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, TX. Raised $19K
  • Jun '04 - Incorporated in the State of Texas on June 3rd
  • Sep '04 - Opened our new offices and editing lab
  • Nov '04 - Awarded the first Alfonso Chavarria Scholarship
  • Nov '04 - Received 501(c)(3) public charity status from the IRS
  • Mar '05 - Committed to second season of fundraising. Raised $25K
  • Oct '05 - Held first 48 Hours of Hell
  • Nov '05 - Awarded Alfonso Chavarria Scholarship
  • Jan '06 - Began Low-Cost Equipment Rental 
  • Mar '06 - Committed to third and final season of fundraising. Raised $19K
  • Apr '06 - Began facilitating production for Denton Public Access TV
  • May '06 - Awarded first Texas Film & Video Grants
  • Feb '07 - Golden Era Gala - Official Thin Line Film Fest Kick-Off
  • Jun '07 - Awarded Texas Film & Video Grants
  • Aug '07 - 1st Annual Thin Line Film Fest
  • Apr '08 - Held first Video Vacation
  • Aug '08 - Awarded Texas Film & Video Grants
  • Sep '08 - 2nd Annual Thin Line Film Fest
  • Dec '08 - Pimp My Short Contest & Screening
  • Apr '09 - Held Video Vacation
  • Sep '09 - Launched new website and enhanced online community
